"The best place to relax I have ever been.

  • 5 of 5

After spending year after year in the South of France we decided to look for something different. The Mill was simply fantastic, equipped with everything you could possibly need. The views were amazing, our daughter said she felt like a Princess living at the top of a castle. We also thought we had fallen in to a fairytale.Sitting at the stone table in the evening with a glass of wine listening out for any animals which were in the area together with the river flowing by was one of the many highlights. The waterfall which was only a two minute walk from the mill (still inside the the beautifull gardens) was a delight and swimming in the pool below it was wonderfull. Even although it was high season we still had the pool to ourselves 95% of the time.

We arrived with the idea that we would have a day in Florence,San Marino etc, but we soon agreed that we did not want to go very far away from the mill. Badia Teldada a 5 minute drive away had everything we needed bakers Butchers etc.

The Sunday lunch at l erbhosteria in Rofelle is an experience not to be missed.

This was booked for us by the mills owners Angela and Maurice who lived close by and were easy to find if you needed help or advice on the area. This is a place we hope to visit again. It suits couples and familys with kids very well.

Lovely holiday at the mill.

  • 5 of 5

My family (2 adults and 3 children aged 10, 12, 14) spent 11 days in the mill in July 2016. We found the mill and the surroundings absolute lovely and relaxing. The hosts were very kind and most helpful. Everything lived up to our high expectations. We enjoyed the river, the garden, the lovely mill and spent hours sunbathing, playing cards, badminton etc. We did the Sunday dinner at Del Piero's, which was fantastic and very cheap as well - 3 hours of non-stop eating (remember to skip the breakfast) with only 17 persons (mostly Italians) was 30 Euro per adult and 22 Euros per teenager and 15 Euros for the children. We chose to pay 30 Euros x 5 because the children got the same meal as us and everything was perfect. We visited the pizzeria in Badia twice, which was original and nice/cheap as well. We visited the bar in Badia and did shopping several times in the local Badia Alimentarie/small supermarket - the people there was absolutely marvelous and "spoiled" our children with candies. Maurice arranged a cooking lesson for our family with Teresa and her sister in the nearby B&B (walking distance) - very fun and we prepared a lovely dinner for our family. Coocking leason was 2-3 hours in the afternoon and then we went back in the evening to get our prepared dinner served by the sisters. It was 50 Euros per adult and 30 Euros per children everything included - lesson, food, wine, coffe etc. Absolutely worth trying. Thanx to Maurice and Angela for helping out with everything and for your kindness. The Mill have our best recommendations for future visitors and we and / or our children might very well choose to revisit the mill someday. Best wishes for the future Gitte, Freja, Malthe, Nikolaj and Brian from Denmark.

We had an amazing fortnight, we all enjoyed the mill to its maximum! The place is a true magical location, with its river a few meters away. Maurice and Angela are lovely people, caring for their guests, providing great tips about Italy and places to visit as well. We came back from our holidays fully rested and enchanted. The children loved splashing and diving in the river and waterfalls. Splendid! Thanks again for letting us enjoy your little wonder. Helene, Tammo, Roos, Niels & Lise

Il Mulino is quite simply beautiful! The countryside is stunning and peaceful, delicious food and so much to do. The beach, river walks, medieval towns to explore all on the doorstep. The Mill is spacious, clean and well equipped, with beautiful inside and outside space. Maurice and Angela are the perfect hosts, discreet but always willing and available to give information and advice Definitely a place to return to

il mulino is simply heaven! Angela and Maurice make you welcome as if you were old family friends but fully understand that you also want to be left alone to enjoy the beautiful mill, amazing views and relaxing and swimming in the stunning stream pools. Watching the stars at night with the kids and a glass of wine, no sounds other than the wildlife, no light other than the stars and moon takes some beating. waking to nothing but the sound of the babbling stream and the rustle of leaves in the trees outside your window made every morning so special. every aspect amazing !

A wonderful stay...

Left on Aug 23, 2016 for a stay in Aug 2016
A wonderful stay of two weeks in August 2016 in Il Mulino. It is exactly what we hoped it to be: beautiful, quiet, well accommodated, surrounded by the beautiful fauna & flora of the countryside. Saw more kinds of animals in two weeks than we usually do in an entire year. We would highly recommend this place to people who are looking for a place where you can unwind, relax and just enjoy whatever happens in nature around you. If you also like building dams in the river or taking a refreshing dive in the river, the mill will be your dream holiday getaway. If you want to, you can always go out and visit villages and cities, but we quickly decided to stick to the peace and quiet of the mill as much as we could. If you like walking, there are many GR routes within walking/driving distance and in the mill you will find all you need (maps, suggestions for routes, ...). On top of the perfect holiday home, the owners, who live just a couple of meters away, are absolutely wonderful! Kind and welcoming, but as discrete as can be. You won't even notice they're there, but don't let that stop you from stopping by and asking for recommendations for just about anything (nature, walks, culture, restaurants, ...). A great surplus to a place that we thought couldn't have been any better. As we wrote in the guest book, on our last night, our children aged 9 and 6 burst into tears and declared that they would never eat candy again if they could simply stay in the mill for one more hour... That pretty much sums it up! Although we like to visit new places every year, we hope (and promised - the candy) to be back very soon. Thanks again, Angela and Maurice!

Wonderful! Very tranquil and remote with limited access to Internet & mobile, and best of all no TV!. Quiet, except for the sound of the stream which is great for cooling down in the two plunge pools under each waterfall. Ideal for getting away from the world. Lots of stargazing and boardgames at night! Maurice & Angela were great hosts, and on hand when needed, but not intrusive, leaving us to enjoy the beauty of the mill.

"Recharge your batteries"

By the Ziervogel-Allen family, July 26th - August 9th, 2014

This mill is wonderful with lovely hosts, the perfect place for children to play in the river, make dams, catch baby fish/bugs, swim etc. A proper country holiday like we had as kids. The wood fired oven pizza in the local village was to die for and local sulphate free wine guaranteed not to give you a hangover! Rimini is just over 1hr drive and is well worth it if you have kids, sandy beaches are clean and well maintained, gentle currents, expensive chairs and umbrellas, but worth it for a day with clean well stocked toilets- don't be put off by it's 'tourist' image, it's a great day out. There are so many gorgeous villages and towns in the vicinity to explore and the 20 course Sunday lunch at the hotel up the road is an absolute must, you will have to skip some courses to fit it all in! All in all I would absolutely recommend this holiday to recharge your batteries and to show the kids that there is more to life than computers and TV!

You were "lovely" guests too and we treasure the painted stones that you left behind for us. We're so pleased you "got it" - i.e. your comment 'a proper country holiday like we had as kids' is one of the aspects we aim for at Il Mulino. Our children and grandchildren come every summer to recharge their batteries too. We would love to see you again - we have quite a few repeat bookings - and thank you for your appreciative comments. "Tot ziens!".

We had the best holiday at Il Mulino. I'm not sure any words can adequately describe how great this holiday was. The people, the food, the wine, the towns, the scenery were all fantastic. There was so much to do and Maurice and Angela were really helpful with sharing information and ideas giving us a local insight into things to do. This included walks, restaurants, cookery lesson, local wine, the buskers festival at Pennabilli and much more. The accommodation was very comfortable. There was some great wildlife and beautiful wild flowers in the surrounding area. It was lovely to be able to sit out for breakfast and evening meals. We enjoyed a couple of excellent bbq's too - getting some lovely meat from the local butcher, We stayed for a week but with everything we packed in it felt we were there longer. I would thoroughly recommend a holiday at Il Mulino.

Response to review:

"Grazie" for your lovely comments and it was a pleasure to welcome you to our little secret corner of Tuscany. As we are both fluent in Italian (and Maurice is half Italian), we feel able to help our guests get the most out of the area and we're pleased you all felt you made the most out of your stay. June is the period when fireflies make their magical appearance too and the wild flowers are at their best, which you discovered on your mountain walks. Come again!!!!

By Pat and John Ashton, 9th - 16th August, 2014

"Thank you, Angela and Maurice, for yet another wonderful holiday at Il Mulino. This has been our fourth visit so it is obvious how much we love it here! This time has been very different, though, for we have come without our children (grown up ones) and grandchildren. It has been lovely to have more time to sip wine and appreciate the peace and beauty.

We have done some of our, by now, traditional things: Sunday lunch at Piero's, dinner at the Agriturismo, truffle hunting with Professor Tocci, swimming in the river - and they were all as good as ever.

We did 2 new walks:

  1. To Gattara along the white road. There were lovely views and we fortified ourselves with porcini and pasta at the trattoria. There are some long uphill/downhill stretches along the route and we were pleased not to ache next day!
  2. Montebotolino to Montebotolino peak. This is a lovely walk through woodland - but it is very steep and took us rather longer than suggested! The German fortifications are extremely interesting and the views from the peak are amazing!

Thank you again for a brilliant holiday - a week wasn't long enough but, hopefully, we'll be back before too long for our fifth visit!"

We hope so, Pat and John!

From Catherine and Dick Bowen. June 6th - July 5th 2014

"We came back again this year - what more can we say? Actually lots! Il Mulino in June is completely different from September and even better (if that's possible). Again, we have enjoyed every single day here but some highlights are:

  • The fireflies - indescribable and beautiful
  • The wildflowers and birds (hoo poe)
  • The four Della Robbia churches - it was a great privilege and "grazie mille" to Fulvio and Angela for the highlight of the holiday!
  • The mountains and the valley.
  • Of course, the stream.

Thank you, Maurice and Angela for your hospitality, help and suggestions (particularly with flat tyre) - it has been truly wonderful.

We look forward to coming back another year.

Best wishes.

We look forward to welcoming you again and sharing supper and vino with you again! A presto!

June 18th - 25th 2011 - The O'Rourkes loved Il Mulino...it was everything we'd hoped for - including the weather. The river was especially good - like bathing in a volvic Jacuzzi!

June 25th - 2nd July 2011. A wonderful week combining great sightseeing with relaxing in a hidden Paradise of spectacular wildflowers...Palio in Anghiari during the week...lots of drums, flags, trumpets and mediaeval costumes. July 9th - 16th 2011...the boys have loved the river and want to stay another week...We hope to visit again. We have all had a most relaxing and peaceful week. 6th August - 13th 2011 Back again; and it feels just like home...and then there is the truffling with Professor Tocci and Chicco: a dog who makes up in enthusiasm for his short-comings in obedience! A wonderful fun time with some genuinely lovely people. Truffles too! The Rogers family.
